Fall Foliage
The Moosehead region puts on one of New England's great autumn shows, with peak color typically from late September into mid-October (often around October 6–13). Drive the Moosehead Lake Scenic Byway (Route 15 through Jackman, Rockwood, Greenville, and Kokadjo), or take it in on foot at Gulf Hagas, 'Maine's Grand Canyon,' the 90-foot Moxie Falls, or up Mt. Kineo, whose summit fire tower opens onto the lake in full color.
For a once-in-a-lifetime view, a seaplane tour over the blazing canopy is hard to beat, and moose are especially active this time of year.
