Mountain Biking Adventures
Best Season: Late spring through fall (June–October, depending on trail conditions)
The Moosehead Lake area offers exciting mountain biking opportunities for all skill levels, from wide gravel roads and forest trails to more technical terrain. With stunning lake views, fresh mountain air, and few crowds, it’s an ideal spot for a wilderness ride.
Top Mountain Biking Spots:
- Little Moose Mountain Trail System (Moderate to Challenging)
Just a few miles from Greenville, these trails wind through forested hills and offer scenic overlooks. Expect rocky paths, stream crossings, and great wildlife spotting. A mountain bike with suspension is recommended. - Moose Mountain Area (Intermediate)
Ride old ski trails and logging roads with sweeping views of Moosehead Lake. Some sections are rugged and steep — perfect for more adventurous riders. - Prong Pond Trails (Beginner to Moderate)
A more relaxed option, these trails are located near Kokadjo and offer a mix of gentle gravel roads and wooded singletrack. Great for families or casual riders.
Gear & Rentals:
- Northwoods Outfitters (Downtown Greenville)
Offers mountain bike rentals, including fat bikes, along with helmets, gear, and trail advice.
Local Tip: Early fall is an unbeatable time for mountain biking here — crisp air, fewer bugs, and blazing foliage overhead.
